Fats Oils Grease

Dispose of Holiday Cooking Oil a Better Way

Liquid oil that gets tossed in trash carts attracts insects and rodents. When the trash gets crushed in the trucks, liquids leak out onto the ground. It doesn’t look good; and, it’s not great for the environment.

It's easy to protect your pipes from damage and protect the environment. Even a little oil down the drain can cause big problems for your pipes! Simply pour grease into a container once it has cooled. Let it solidify, then cover it and place it in the trash. (Tip: Kitty litter poured into cooled oil helps it solidify faster and better!)

Used cooking oil, fats and grease are considered household hazardous waste and can be safely disposed of at X-treme Green events. Please remember to be very careful handling hot oil.

Christmas Tree Dropoff

Plan Ahead, Mark Your Calendar

After the presents are unwrapped and the decorations are stored, you'll want to say bye bye to your boughs of holly. Drop off organic trees at the Christmas Tree Dropoff on Saturday, December 26 through Tuesday, January 12.

If you are unable to drop off your tree or choose not to, then set it out to be picked up as bulk trash. Remember the new set out ordinance takes effect January 2021 and bulk collections can be set out up to 48 hours prior to your collection day.  If at the curb, the tree can cannot exceed 5’ in length. For example, if someone has a 10’ tree, then it needs to be cut into two sections in order to be picked up.

Trash Collection Change for New Year's Day

Don't forget to mark your calendar. Trash collection slides over one day to accommodate the New Year's Day holiday, so Friday collections occur on Saturday. Happy New Year, Sachse!

Bulk & Brush Ordinance Amended; Set Out Times Change January 2021

Have you heard the news? Beginning next month, bulk trash needs to be placed out no earlier than 48 hours prior to your scheduled collection day. What about brush? It goes out on the Saturday prior to your collection day.

Not sure about your collection day? Check the interactive map on our bulk trash webpage:
www.cityofsachse.com/bulktrash. You'll find information about what is considered bulk trash and the items included in brush.

Confused? Have questions? We're here to help.
