New solid waste contract goes into effect on April 1
SACHSE (February 27, 2019) Sachse residents will see a few relatively minor changes to solid waste and recycling collection services after April 1, when the City’s new contract with Community Waste Disposal (CWD) takes effect.
The most obvious changes will be the collection of recycling material every week, instead of the current bi-weekly schedule, and the collection of brush and bulk trash on their designated collection day.
“Service routes will be essentially the same,” says Teresa Savage, the City’s Finance Director whose department oversees solid waste services. “There will likely be a few homes that will change collection days, but these will be contacted directly. So unless a home gets a message from us about a change, the pickup day will remain the same.”
The new contract stipulates that material intended for recycling will be collected each week, deposited in the blue recycling poly carts. Recycled material should not be bagged but placed in the cart by the piece. Both the recycling cart and the trash cart should be placed at their usual collection point no later than 7 a.m. on the scheduled collection day.
Brush and bulk trash pickup will also undergo a slight schedule change. Starting on April 1, homes may place bundled brush and bulk trash items at their usual collection point on their designated bulk and bundled brush pickup day. Information on those designated days will be shared prior to the start of the new service.
Postcards, brochures and social media posts containing the brush and bulk trash schedule will also include information on the size and volume of brush bundles and bulk items or provide links to web-based locations where the information is available.
A switch-out of the current Republic Services trash and recycling poly carts with the new CWD poly carts occurs during the weeks of March 18 and 25. During those two weeks, residents on their recycling pick up weeks should place all their Republic carts out at their usual collection point, whether they have anything in them or not. They will be replaced with CWD carts.
All residences will receive one grey trash and one blue recycling cart. Residents who are currently being billed for extra trash carts will have those carts delivered separately. Residents who desire an extra recycling cart, must contact the City directly at 469-429-4763. Under the new contract terms, recycling will now be picked up on a weekly basis beginning April 1. Even so, residents who desire an extra recycling cart after the weekly pickup cycle begins will see a monthly charge of $3.25 applied to the account for each additional recycling cart received.
“The new contractor, CWD, has committed to answering general questions and concerns regarding trash and recycling collection,” added Savage. “While we at the City are always available to respond to residents, personnel at CWD will be available to assist with everything except billing.”
CWD can be contacted at (972) 392-9300, Option 2. Community clean up events will remain unchanged.
