Bulk trash pickup schedule change for 2018 in Sachse

SACHSE (December 12, 2017) A major change in the pickup schedule for bulk and brush pickup will be instituted on New Year’s Day that will split the City into a north and south zone, each with its own pickup day.  The bulk trash schedule is separate from regular trash and recycling pickup. All bulk trash must be placed curbside by 7 a.m. on the appropriate Monday for each zone regardless of the regular trash designated day.

Bulky trash items that are not appropriate for insertion in the poly cart and large accumulations of brush and branches will be picked up during the first two weeks of each month, with zone 1, or the south zone, being serviced beginning the first Monday or the month, and zone 2, or the north zone, being serviced beginning the second Monday of the month.

While the bulk and brush pickup service begins on Mondays, the amount of material throughout each zone may delay pickup until later in the week.  For example, zone 1 pickup starts on the first Monday of the month, but because of high volume, residents in the zone may not see pickup trucks until later in the week.  The same is true for zone 2.

The dividing line starts at the intersection of Murphy Road (Bunker Hill Road) and Hwy 78 and travels along Hwy 78 to Sachse Road.  At that intersection, the dividing line turns east onto Sachse Road and follows it all the way to the eastern City limits.  The area below that line is zone 1 (south zone) and the area above that line is zone 2 (north zone).

There are some guidelines regarding bulk trash pickup.  For example, while appliances, including refrigerators, will be picked up, all appliances that use Freon must be tagged with a receipt from a licensed HVAC technician attesting that the Freon has been completely removed.  Refrigerators and other appliances that use Freon and that do not have the receipt clearly affixed to the exterior will not be removed.

Additionally, refrigerator doors, with and without latches, must be removed or secured in such a way that neither children nor animals can enter the discarded refrigerator and inadvertently become trapped in the unit.

Push or riding lawn mowers, edgers and other motorized yard tools must be completely free of all gasoline, oil and lubricants.

Brush must be cut into segments not longer than four feet nor thicker than six inches in diameter and stacked neatly by the curb. The curbside brush pile should not measure larger than four feet long and three feet wide and must be separated from other trash because it is gathered by trucks that are directed to a facility separate from the landfill.  Pieces of metal placed by the curb must be of a size that fits into the trash truck, no longer than six feet in length.

Paint cans containing wet paint will not be picked up.  However, cans containing paint which has dried to a solid state will be taken.  Toxic chemicals, solvents, combustible materials and any type of medical waste will not be taken.   These household hazardous waste materials can be taken to the Dallas County Home Chemical Collection Center, 11234 Plano Rd. in Dallas, for disposal at no charge.

Sachse residents should present a photo ID and current utility bill for entry.
