Mosquitoes testing positive for the West Nile Virus were discovered in two locations in the City of Sachse. Dallas County has informed the City of Sachse that they will perform ground spraying to help combat this issue. The ground spraying will occur between Saturday, August 18th at 10:00 pm and Sunday, August 19th at 2:00 am.
Residents who live in the affected areas (see Attached Map) should stay indoors and avoid contact with the insecticide. Those who might come in direct contact should wash with soap and water. Motorists who pass spray trucks should remain in their vehicles with the windows up and the air conditioner off until the insecticide dissipates. Fish ponds should be protected and pets should be brought indoors.
For additional information on West Nile disease or mosquito breeding please contact Billy Ho at the City of Sachse at 469.429.4788 or visit the City’s Health/Environment page under Community Development. The best way to avoid exposure to West Nile virus is to avoid mosquito bites:
>> Dusk and Dawn are the times of day you should try to stay indoors.
>> Use insect repellents that contain DEET or other EPA-approved repellents.
>> Dress in long sleeves and long pants when you are outside.
>> Drain any standing water and install or repair window screens.
