(SACHSE) March 13, 2020 The City of Sachse will close its Senior Center, the Sachse Public Library, and the Michael J. Felix Community Center effective today, Friday, March 13 at 5:00 p.m., until further notice. This decision was made in accordance with guidance from the State of Texas, Dallas County, Garland and Wylie Independent School districts, and other area cities.
Guidance from the Centers for Disease and Prevention (CDC) recommends organizations should consider adjusting or postponing large gatherings when possible and promote social distancing.
Mayor Mike Felix said, “The City of Sachse’s chief responsibility is to protect the health, safety, and welfare of our residents, guests, patrons, and staff. The decision to close these facilities is based on our concern for the most vulnerable populations. The City is aware and prepared. We’re taking actions to prevent, limit, and slow the spread of coronavirus in our community.”
Public Safety facilities, including Sachse’s two fire stations and police station, remain operational and responsive to all emergencies. We ask the public to avoid any non-essential, non-emergency visits to these facilities. All tours and educational programs are unavailable or canceled until further notice.
At this time, the City plans to hold its regularly scheduled City Council meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 16 in the City Council Chambers to conduct essential City business. Attendees should limit socializing before and after the meetings as much as possible. As an alternative, the City strongly recommends residents to view the meeting’s live-stream, which is available online at: www.cityofsachse.com/CityCouncilMeetings.
The City of Sachse will notify the public of any changes related to future City Council meetings.
