At the annual Boards and Commissions Appreciation Dinner, Mayor Mike Felix presented Certificates of Appreciation to Patsy Covington and Gregg LeMaster for their time and service to the Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors.

Mayor Felix also read Certificates of Appreciation to those outgoing members who could not be present:  Animal Shelter Advisory Committee members Wendi McDonald and Holly Gideons; Parks and Recreation Commission member Dan Stevens; and Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors Scott Smith, Ed Stelnicki, and Nicole Tucker.  Mayor, Council and staff all appreciate the time and dedication these individuals have contributed to making the City of Sachse the best.

BOARDS & COMMISSIONS APPOINTMENT PROCESS
Public Service Opportunities

Boards and Commissions applicants visit with staff and Council members at the 2009 reception.

The democratic experience is built upon the foundation of citizens becoming actively involved in their local government.  Consistent with this principle, Sachse's Charter provides for the City Council to utilize citizen volunteers to assist in carrying out the many important functions of municipal government by serving on one of the City's Advisory Boards and Commissions.  Citizens play an important role in the activities of city government.  While the city has many dedicated employees, it still depends upon the resource of its citizen advisors on volunteer boards, commissions and committees as well as subject matter task forces to exercise its home rule responsibilities.  Please give serious consideration to becoming more involved to help make Sachse a better community for your family and fellow residents by applying to serve on a board or commission of your choice.  If you have questions or would like more information, please contact the City Secretary's office at 972-495-1212, ext. 23.

Each year during November, the Sachse City Council considers applicants for appointments to the following Boards and Commissions:

¨   PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION

¨   BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS

¨   PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION

¨   LIBRARY BOARD

¨   ANIMAL SHELTER BOARD

¨   ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION BOARD OF DIRECTORS

¨   TAX INCREMENT FINANCING (TIF) BOARD

Qualifications for Appointment

The Sachse Home Rule Charter establishes certain qualifications that must be met by all members of city boards, commissions and committees.  An applicant or member of a City board or commission must be a resident of Sachse.

Selection Process

Anyone wishing to serve, including current members must submit an application during the month of September.

Appointments will be made by the City Council in November for two-year terms.  Terms are staggered whereby one-half of the membership is appointed each year.

It is imperative that members maintain regular attendance at meetings.  Any member who will not be in attendance must notify the chairman of his/her absence prior to the meeting.  Three of five absences, or absences from four consecutive meetings may result in notification to the City Council of the absences.

All applicants will be notified of appointment by mail.  Applicants who were not appointed will be reconsidered as vacancies occur.  Applications will be maintained on file for one year.
