City Employee Benefits


The benefits listed are for full-time employees only. Part-time employees receive prorated vacation, sick leave, personal days and holidays, and longevity payments.

  • Bereavement Leave - Up to 3 days for the death of an immediate family member.
  • Family Care Leave - Up to 6 weeks paid time off for maternity/paternity, elder care or to care for a child or spouse during a major medical event
  • Bilingual Pay - $25 per month for the proven ability to read, write, or speak another language
  • Deferred Compensation - Employees can contribute up to $22,500 of their salary yearly for long term tax-deferred savings
  • Dental Insurance - The city pays 100% of employee premium for base plan
  • Employee Assistance Program - Paid by the city
  • Health Insurance - The city pays 100% of employee premiums, and contributes toward dependent coverage
  • Incentive Pay - Varies based on approved certifications
  • Life Insurance - the city provides life insurance at no cost to employees, one time salary, up to $50,000 
  • Long Term Disability - Up to 60% of salary effective after 90 days of disability
  • Short Term Disability - Up to 60% of salary effective between 14-90 days of disability
  • Longevity Pay - $4 per month after one full year of completed service
  • Retirement - (TMRS) Employees contributes 7% with funds matched 2:1 at retirement
  • Social Security / Medicare - Social Security is withheld from paychecks at 6.2%, Medicare at 1.45%
  • Supplemental Insurance - Available for accident insurance, cancer insurance, heart/stroke insurance, and universal life insurance
  • Tuition Reimbursement - Up to $2,000 annually
  • Vacation Leave available on date of hire
  • Vacation Leave:
    • 1-4 years: 100 hours per year
    • 5-9 years: 140 hours per year
    • 10-14 years: 160 hours per year
    • More than 15 years: 200 hours per year
  • Vacation Leave - Sworn Firefighter:
    • 1-4 years: 180 hours per year
    • 5-9 years: 260 hours per year
    • 10-14 years: 300 hours per year
    • More than 15 years: 340 hours per year
  • Sick Leave - 6.67 hours per month to a maximum of 500 hours
  • Paid Holidays - Twelve holidays per year
  • Personal Leave - Four days per calendar year
